2018-2019 Bad Weather Informational Letter

December 13, 2018

Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

The current weather forecast projects a very slight possibility of a winter mix this evening. Although no accumulation is expected, I would like to inform each of you of the process and methods Glen Rose ISD will disseminate information regarding possible school closings.

Glen Rose ISD will begin evaluating road conditions within Somervell County by 4:00 a.m. while monitoring weather projections for the remainder of the day. Possible actions could include closures, delayed start times, or in certain scenarios an early release. School closings or late start determinations will occur by 6:00 a.m. before morning bus routes begin.  Glen Rose ISD will utilize an automated calling and texting system to notify students, parents and staff of possible closings or delays.  A pre-recorded message will be sent to all phone numbers in the student and staff directory within 10 minutes.  Please make sure the numbers that you listed on the student information sheet are current.

Information will also be posted on the Glen Rose ISD website www.grisd.net.  The website will be continuously updated to keep parents and community members informed of school closing status.  Announcements will also be posted on the district Twitter and Facebook pages. In the event of a loss of power, internet and social media postings may not be possible.

To ensure everyone is informed, the following television and radio stations will be contacted for publication:

Television                                                           Radio

Channel 4   KDFW                                            KHITS – 95.3 FM

Channel 5   KXAS

Channel 8   WFAA

Channel 11 KTVT

The media will only be notified in the event there will be changes to the school schedule such as a cancellation, late start or early release.  Decisions to alter the school schedule will be made based on the ability of Glen Rose ISD to safely transport students to and from school.  Any decisions made will be based on the most accurate information and forecast available.  As always, our top priority is the safety of our students, staff and parents.

Thanks for your support and cooperation!

Sincerely,

Wayne Rotan

Superintendent

Glen Rose ISD
