Testing
The PSAT is a practice test for the SAT. The PSAT will be offered at the high school on October 13, 2010 during school hours. All Glen Rose High School sophomores and juniors will take the PSAT. Scores on the PSAT enter 11th grade students into the National Merit Scholarship Competition. For additional information about the PSAT visit www.collegeboard.com * Special Note: Any Texas high school student (that does not attend Glen Rose High School) interested in taking the PSAT may contact the Glen Rose High School counseling department four weeks prior to the testing date. The SAT is one of two college entrance exams. These entrance exams are required by the majority of colleges and universities. Score requirements are determined by the individual colleges and universities. It is recommended that every student take this exam starting the second semester of their junior year and before the second semester of their senior year.
The PLAN is a practice test for the ACT. The PLAN will be offered at the high school on October 13, 2010 during school hours. All freshman students will take the PLAN. The ACT is one of two college entrance exams. These entrance exams are required by the majority of colleges and universities. Texas Success Initiative (TSI) 2010-2011 School Year Based on The Texas Education Code statute 51.3062, unless exempt (see exemptions below) the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board requires that, prior to enrollment into a Texas college or university, each student must be assessed in three skill areas (reading, writing, and mathematics) using one or more of the following instruments:
Nearest testing centers: Tarleton State University's Testing Center
Hill College Testing Center in Cleburne
Exemptions Students can be exempt from TSI testing if they meet one of the following conditions:
AP Testing 2010-2011 School Year
Special Note: Any Texas high school student (that does not attend Glen Rose High School) interested in taking an AP exam may contact the Glen Rose High School counseling department prior to February first. The TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) test is a mandatory test for Texas students. At the high school level, passing the exit level test taken by students their junior year is a requirement for graduation. EOC: End of Course Assessments 2010-2011 End of course assessments will replace TAKS test in a few years (estimated implementation of EOC is Spring 2013). Currently EOC assessments are administered online on a voluntary basis.
