To: Local Leaders, Responders, Health Care Administrators ,Public and Private School Administrators and VOAD Organizations:
- Current Situation: Swine Flu outbreaks have occurred both nationally and internationally. Specifically in the states of California and Texas and internationally in Mexico. Media reports and coverage is extensive. Facts in Texas are: There have been cases confirmed in Guadalupe County involving a small group of high school students. Medical analysis and investigations continue to verify/confirm/deny existence of others who may be ill and to the extent the flu has spread. This is an intense and deliberate effort which will continue and may change the dynamics of this event. In short, it is highly probable that this situation may change through tonight and tomorrow until full situational awareness is attained. It is very important at this point to understand that no patients in Texas are seriously ill. Repeating, no patients in Texas are seriously ill.
- On Going Actions: Department of State Health Services has activated its full capability and capacity to determine both the extent of this outbreak and the appropriate medical response to meet the challenge.
- Coordinating Instructions:
- There will be a statewide conference call Sunday, April 26th at 3:00 PM.

- Purpose of Call: To provide addressees the most current situational awareness and allow both state and federal medical agencies to provide the latest correct information and courses of action. TEA will provide situational updates and guidance.
- If you have medical questions between now and the conference call, you are advised to call your local DSHS Region Office. If you have operational questions call the SOC.
- Summary: Texas has confirmed cases of what is characterized as Swine Flu. It is currently confined to one specific area. Patients are not seriously ill.
- If situation escalates beyond what is currently known, you will be notified and we will most certainly move forward the call and planned actions.
