GRHS FCCLA Advances to State!

Waco, Tx- The Glen Rose High School Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently attended the Region II FCCLA Leadership Conference in Waco on Feb. 22-24, 2018. Five of our six teams advanced to state competition, which is coming up in April.

Fourteen GRHS FCCLA chapter members were among 1200 delegates and advisors attending the conference, which was planned and carried out by the Region II FCCLA Officers. The meeting featured a series of specialized leadership tracks and general sessions in which members discovered ways to become actively involved in issues facing today’s youth.
 Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) are competitive events in which members participated at the regional meeting. These events allowed members to showcase their life skills in different areas of competition.
GRHS teams that competed in Region II and qualified for state included:

1st Place: Entrepreneurship Jr. – Laney Whitefield

1st Place: Applied Math for Culinary Management, Sr. – Richard Sanford

2nd Place: Advocacy Occupational-Alexandria Sanchez

4th Place: Career Investigation-Marissa Beaman

4th Place: Focus on Children, Sr.- Abby Payne and Jordin Voss

 

Lilia Juarez was elected to serve as Region II Vice President of Competitive Events during the House of Delegates meeting. We are so proud of Lilia and look forward to the upcoming year as she serves the Region.

Chapter Members Matthew Locke, Carson Osborne and Orrin Miller competed in Food Innovation, Sr. Kelly Boyd served as our Chapter Voting Delegate for the House of Delegates meeting. Senior Chapter Member, Ashley Hang, recipient of the 2017 Kikkoman Japanese Exchange Program Scholarship, served as a student evaluator for the conference.

Our chapter would like to thank all of those who helped and supported our students as they prepared for competition. We would also like to thank Mrs. Elsa Hill and Jill Evans for serving as chaperones for the Region II event, as well as, Lynn Boyles and Mary Ruth Wirt for volunteering to serve as an evaluator for the conference.

Glen Rose FCCLA is gearing up for the State FCCLA Leadership Conference in Dallas in April and is vying for a chance to advance to National competition to be held in Atlanta, Georgia this July.
